East 3 West 2 (East wins shootout 3-2)
The first game of the day was a defensive struggle in the first half, as neither team could push a ball into the net in the opening half. Things quickly changed after intermission, as Kate Kenny ( Speedway ) scored for the East early in the second half, and the score remained 1-0 until the final eight minutes. Boone Grove’s Mary Kieffer scored for the West with 7:40 to play to knot the game 1-1. The East’s Mackenzie Coulter ( Manchester ) placed a ball into the net at the 5:27 mark to give her team a 2-1 lead, but Kieffer tied the score 2-2 on another goal with just 1:26 to play in regulation.
“I’m really happy, although I was a bit nervous,” Coulter said. “My team ( Manchester ) wasn’t involved in many shootouts this season so this was a relatively new experience. The crowd was great and I enjoyed myself.”
Kieffer was impressed with the quality of the players present. “A lot of the girls here have more experience than I do,” she said, “but we’re all pretty good. I got some nice assists on the goals I scored.”
In the shootout, Lindsay Ivey ( Centerville ), Olivia Rees of Eastern (Greentown) and Coulter registered goals for the East, while Laney Martin ( Washington Township ) and Alexandria Lau of Hebron countered for the West.
For the winning East squad, Ivey was named Most Valuable Player and Julia Kline of Elkhart Christian received the Mental Attitude award. For the West, Lau was named Most Valuable Player and Tri West’s Emily DeVore received the Mental Attitude award.
“It was a lot of fun playing with a lot of the top girls around the state,” Ivey said. “There was a lot of camaraderie out there. After halftime, we got more used to each other and found out what each of us could do best.”

I tried to take photos of as many people as possible but am sure there are some I missed. If I have no photos of a specific individual, it was not intentional and I apologize. Other photographic duties limited the time I had available for each game.
