West 2 East 1 (West wins shootout 9-8)

There was no scoring in the first half of this fast-paced contest. Each team had opportunities, but failed to convert.

The East finally scored when Francisco Bravo of Salem kicked a ball into the goal with 11:55 left in the game. That 1-0 lead appeared as if it would hold up, but with just 32 seconds to play in the contest, Griffith ’s Matt Plawecki scored for the West to tie the game 1-1 and send it to a shootout.

Each team got four balls into the net in the first round of the shootout, and the West finally prevailed 9-8 after the East missed a shot in the second round.

For the victorious West, Stefen Arney from Washington was named Most Valuable Player and Zac Lechler of Edgewood received the Mental Attitude award. Seth Taylor of Brown County was Most Valuable Player for the East, and Dylan Peck of Hamilton Heights won the Mental Attitude award.

“It feels good to play in a game like this and especially to get MVP,” Arney said. “This was a fun game to play in, and the fans seemed to enjoy it, too.”

Due to previous commitments, I was unable to stay late enough to capture any action shots or the awards winners for this game.

Below is a slideshow with the team pictures. Click here to view them as a gallery.

If you would like to order prints, you need to go to one of the photo gallery. Once you are in the gallery, you will see thumbnails of the images. Again, sorry that there are no action shots or award winner shots.
