West 83, East 81

The final game of the day was just as thrilling as the one preceding it. The East boys grabbed a 46-42 lead at the end of a high-scoring first half, but neither team could get a large lead in the second half, and the outcome was in doubt down to the final seconds. With the score tied 81-81 and only 1.2 seconds left, an official called a foul on one of the East players as Cameron Carroll from Orleans was attempting a long desperation shot behind the 10-second line. Carroll calmly stepped to the free throw line and canned the first two charity tosses, giving the West the victory.

Billy Newton of Shakamak led the well-balanced West with 12 points, and Cameron Carroll added 10. Six other West boys scored between 6-9 points.

The East was just as well-balanced as the West. Keith Thacker of Indianapolis Crispus Attucks had game-high scoring honors with 13 points for the East, and teammate Tyler Crace of Indiana Deaf added 10. Four players with 9 points and one with 8 also contributed greatly to the East cause.

Clay Martin of Covington hit 9-of-10 shots behind the arc to edge Chaz Eldridge of Indianapolis Irvington (7-of-10) for the win in the 3-point shooting contest, and Billy Newton was named MVP.
