West 60, East 44
After leading just 25-23 at halftime, the West went on a 21-5 run midway through the second half to win going away. Leading the West were Margaret Diaz of River Forest with 18 points and Elyse Weddle from Bloomfield with 15.
Two stars from Austin’s Class 2A state championship squad led the East in scoring, as Ashley Dowling tallied 16 points and Chelsea Jones added 13.
Asia Jones from Speedway won the 3-point shooting contest, while Margaret Diaz was named MVP.
“I’m very proud to be here today,” Diaz said. “It was a long drive down here, but I’m cherishing every second of this experience. I also played volleyball at River Forest , but basketball is my funnest sport because I can practice hard and get really good at it. I graduate on June 9, but I still haven’t decided on a college or a vocation.”
