East 3 West 2 (East wins shootout 3-2)
The first game of the day was a defensive struggle in the first half, as neither team could push a ball into the net in the opening half. Things quickly changed after intermission, as Kate Kenny ( Speedway ) scored for the East early in the second half, and the score remained 1-0 until the final eight minutes. Boone Grove’s Mary Kieffer scored for the West with 7:40 to play to knot the game 1-1. The East’s Mackenzie Coulter ( Manchester ) placed a ball into the net at the 5:27 mark to give her team a 2-1 lead, but Kieffer tied the score 2-2 on another goal with just 1:26 to play in regulation.
“I’m really happy, although I was a bit nervous,” Coulter said. “My team ( Manchester ) wasn’t involved in many shootouts this season so this was a relatively new experience. The crowd was great and I enjoyed myself.”
Kieffer was impressed with the quality of the players present. “A lot of the girls here have more experience than I do,” she said, “but we’re all pretty good. I got some nice assists on the goals I scored.”
In the shootout, Lindsay Ivey ( Centerville ), Olivia Rees of Eastern (Greentown) and Coulter registered goals for the East, while Laney Martin ( Washington Township ) and Alexandria Lau of Hebron countered for the West.
For the winning East squad, Ivey was named Most Valuable Player and Julia Kline of Elkhart Christian received the Mental Attitude award. For the West, Lau was named Most Valuable Player and Tri West’s Emily DeVore received the Mental Attitude award.
“It was a lot of fun playing with a lot of the top girls around the state,” Ivey said. “There was a lot of camaraderie out there. After halftime, we got more used to each other and found out what each of us could do best.”

I tried to take photos of as many people as possible but am sure there are some I missed. If I have no photos of a specific individual, it was not intentional and I apologize. Other photographic duties limited the time I had available for each game.

West 1 East 0
Game two was a defensive contest from start to finish. The only goal was scored by Culver Academy ’s Jasmine Soo with 2:10 remaining in the first half, which gave the West the edge and, ultimately, the game.
Soo was named Most Valuable Player and Anne Wilson of Plainfield received the Mental Attitude award for the winning West team, while Batesville’s Olivia Blanken was Most Valuable Player and Megan Hardesty of Edgewood received the Mental Attitude award for the East.
“I’ve been playing soccer since I was three years old,” Soo said. “I think my strength is awareness, when to pass the pass, and when to attack the goal by myself. I hope to go to Washington and Lee University in Virginia and play soccer.”

West 6 East 1
No one scored in the third game of the day until there were less than 15 minutes to play in the first half. But from that point until intermission, the West was very productive.
Brooke Polus of Lake Central got things started with a goal at the 14:40 mark. Two minutes later, her Lake Central teammate, Ashley Doreski, banged a ball into the net for a 2-0 West lead. Zionsville’s Hadley Stuart then got into the act, scoring goals at the 8:50 and 1:05 marks of the first half for a 4-0 West lead at halftime.
After intermission, Franklin ’s Amanda Tresslar added to the West lead with a goal at the 24:51 mark. The East finally got on the board at the 20:24 mark of the second half, as Indianapolis Tech’s Stephanie McCoy converted a penalty kick for a score to cut the West’s margin to 5-1. Tresslar wrapped up the scoring on another goal with 10:11 to play in the game for the final 6-1 score.
“I was happy with my play today,” Tresslar said, “especially since I didn’t know most of these girls before today. This is a great event, as it allows girls to get to know one another. The weather was perfect and the crowd was awesome. I didn’t expect this many people to be here.”
Polus was the Most Valuable Player for the victorious West squad, while Kristen Haseley of Zionsville received the Mental Attitude award. For the East, McCoy was named Most Valuable Player and Skyla Handshoe of East Noble received the Mental Attitude award.
“We had a strong team,” Polus said. “It actually looked like we had been playing a long time together, even though I didn’t know a lot of the girls before today. Even in warm-ups, we bonded well. I had a great time today.”

East 2 West 0
Luke Hooley of Westview scored two goals for the East in the first half, and they held up as the West failed to score. Hooley’s goals in the opening half came at the 27:35 mark and with just 42 seconds left to play before intermission.
“On that second goal, we worked the ball around,” Hooley said. “Then we worked the ball to the outside, and then on a crossing shot, I managed to head the ball in. I had a great time and really appreciate the opportunity to come down here and play today.”
Elkhart Christian’s Sean Addison was named Most Valuable Player for the East for his work in goal and Derek Getz of Oldenburg Academy received the Mental Attitude award. For the West, Zak Sipich of Kouts was Most Valuable Player and Chris Dowers from Covington got the Mental Attitude award.
“I think I played well today,” Addison said. “I was stopping some balls and was punting well. I had a lot of fun playing before all these fans, and I’m glad I made the long trek down here to play. I would recommend it to all future players. I play basketball, too, but my first passion is soccer.”

West 4 East 2
The West took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Quinn Cloghessy (Hammond Noll) at the 20:35 mark and Andrew Mocherman (Tri-West) at the 16:49 mark, but the East pulled within 2-1 on a goal from Heritage Christian’s Nick Sato just 47 seconds before halftime.
No one scored in the second half until the East’s Matt Goldsberry (Heritage Christian) placed a ball into the net to tie the game 2-2 with 9:57 left to play. But Boone Grove’s Mitch Aguilera scored back-to-back goals at the 8:11 and 6:22 marks to give the West a 4-2 lead, which it would not relinquish.
“I kind of stepped it up at the end,” Aguilera said. “That first goal gave me an extra boost of confidence to go after the second one. I enjoyed playing here. Soccer is my only sport, and I hope to play it in college at either Adrian or Taylor.”
Chris Lorenz of Hammond Noll was named Most Valuable Player for the West, while Aguilera received the Mental Attitude award. For the East, Brandon Boyce of Indianapolis Ritter was Most Valuable Player and Sato got the Mental Attitude award.
“It took a while for me to get registered,” Boyce said, “but it was well worth it. I had a good time playing center back. This was a nice way for me to end my soccer career, as I plan to go to Purdue and study engineering, but don’t plan to play soccer there.”

West 2 East 1 (West wins shootout 9-8)
There was no scoring in the first half of this fast-paced contest. Each team had opportunities, but failed to convert.
The East finally scored when Francisco Bravo of Salem kicked a ball into the goal with 11:55 left in the game. That 1-0 lead appeared as if it would hold up, but with just 32 seconds to play in the contest, Griffith ’s Matt Plawecki scored for the West to tie the game 1-1 and send it to a shootout.
Each team got four balls into the net in the first round of the shootout, and the West finally prevailed 9-8 after the East missed a shot in the second round.
For the victorious West, Stefen Arney from Washington was named Most Valuable Player and Zac Lechler of Edgewood received the Mental Attitude award. Seth Taylor of Brown County was Most Valuable Player for the East, and Dylan Peck of Hamilton Heights won the Mental Attitude award.
“It feels good to play in a game like this and especially to get MVP,” Arney said. “This was a fun game to play in, and the fans seemed to enjoy it, too.”

West 5 East 2
The East took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Hamilton Southeastern’s Brett Troeger at the 28:31 mark of the first half, and added to it with a goal from Austin Zaharis of Hamilton Southeastern with 6:47 to play in the first half. The West got on the scoreboard on a goal from Chesterton’s Cole Calloway to cut the East lead to 2-1 just 1:32 before intermission.
Offensively, the second half belonged to the West’s Tyrone Martin of Indianapolis Pike, as he scored four goals in about 11 minutes. The scores at the 32:38, 29:41, 27:50, and 21:59 marks of the second half gave the West a 5-2 lead, and the West defense held the East scoreless after intermission.
Martin was the Most Valuable Player for the West, and Jeff Mosier of Evansville North was its Mental Attitude award winner. For the East, Elkhart Central’s Jacob Hulewicz was name Most Valuable Player and Zach Langhans of Greenfield-Central received the Mental Attitude award.
“In the second half we played better,” said Martin, who will be playing soccer at San Diego State University . “We had a lot of through balls that I was able to run down and score on. Defensively, we put more pressure on them and checked better to the side.”
